Woman lightly tapping on the collarbone point, a core EFT technique

EFT Tapping

A memory can lose its detail and keep its full weight, years after it should have quietened.

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique, often called tapping, combines light tapping on acupressure points with focused attention on what you're feeling, working with the emotional charge held around memories, fears and recurring patterns so they loosen their grip.

I'm an EFT International Accredited Certified EFT Practitioner.

I've also completed additional Evidence Based EFT training in advanced practice and trauma-focused work.

What does the research say?

EFT has a growing research base that includes randomised trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses. EFT International maintains a searchable research database so you can look at the studies directly.

You can use EFT in two ways here. If you'd like to learn it yourself, you can work through my free EFT guide and seven-part course at your own pace. If you'd prefer to work through something together, you can book a private session with me.

What people bring to it

  • Overwhelm, worry and everyday stress
  • Difficult past events that still carry weight
  • Long-held fears and the things that make you flinch
  • Cravings and habits you'd rather drop
  • Performance, public speaking and confidence

Online or in person

I offer EFT online as well as in person, so I see clients worldwide as well as in Titirangi, West Auckland. I schedule online sessions to suit your time zone. You can also download my free guide, which includes the tapping points, to use between sessions. If you like keeping a record of what you worked on and what changed, you can use the fill in areas in the online resources, download the PDFs to keep and work through later, or use the EFT practice log.

If you've tried tapping before and it didn't quite land the way you expected, that's genuinely common, and there are common reasons for it. I've put together a free seven-part course on why that happens and what tends to help.

EFT often works alongside PSYCH‑K and the Emotion, Body & Belief Code.

The tapping points

Here are the eight points, the same ones in Let It Go…, my free guide, so you have them in one place. Tap five to seven times on each, working through them in order, starting from the side of the hand.

Diagram of the eight EFT tapping points on the head, torso and hand
  1. Top of the head (crown)
  2. Eyebrow (at the beginning of the eyebrow, closest to the bridge of the nose, on either side or both. Tap just above the bony ridge of the eye socket)
  3. Side of the eye (on the orbital bone at the outer corner of the eye, staying on the bone)
  4. Under the eye (on the bone beneath the pupil, on the orbital bone)
  5. Under the nose (between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip)
  6. Chin point (the crease between chin and lower lip)
  7. Collarbone (just below where it meets the breastbone, about an inch down and an inch out from the U-shaped notch at the base of your throat)
  8. Under the arm (about 10cm below the armpit)

Every round begins at the set-up point, the side of the hand, along the soft outer edge below the little finger, sometimes called the karate chop point elsewhere.

The points on their own are only half of it. The full guided round, how to actually use them, is in my free guide.

Sessions and cost

Energy & Belief Work: 60 minutes · NZ$150. Time to explore a particular focus, or work out together where you would like to begin.

The Deeper Work: 90 minutes · NZ$195. More room when you would like a longer conversation or have several connected things you want to explore.

You can book either length for EFT. I may also draw on another approach during the session when that is useful to what you bring.

Does tapping really work, or is it just a placebo?
EFT has a growing research base that includes randomised trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses. EFT International maintains a searchable research database so you can explore the studies directly.
Can EFT be done online?
Yes. Tapping is something you do on your own points with me guiding you, so it works practically over video.
Will I have to relive painful memories?
You don't need to go into detail about what happened for EFT to be useful. Sometimes, as the intensity eases, a memory that felt too difficult to approach can become easier to talk about or tap on. We go at your pace, and you can pause or change direction at any point.
Can I use EFT between sessions?
Absolutely. You can download my free guide, which includes the tapping points, and use the technique yourself for everyday stress and worry between sessions. If writing things down helps, you can use the fill in areas in the online resources, use the fillable EFT practice log online, or print a copy to work through by hand.
