ConTact C.A.R.E Flinchlock Release® · In person · Titirangi, West Auckland
ConTact C.A.R.E
ConTact C.A.R.E Flinchlock Release is precise and non-intrusive, and it's the hands-on work closest to my heart.
What brings people to ConTact C.A.R.E
- a fall, car accident, sporting impact or unexpected knock
- an older impact you never quite felt the same after
- stiffness or tension that's stuck around
- changes in movement or comfort since an injury
- a wish to move and feel freer in your body
If any of those sound familiar, you're in the right place, even if you can't point to a single clear cause.
What is ConTact C.A.R.E?
Your body can hold onto the pressure of a surprise impact, sometimes for years, in what ConTact C.A.R.E founders Dale Speedy and Kym Summers call a flinchlock. Releasing that pressure, without force, is what a session works toward. Read the full story of how ConTact C.A.R.E works, and what a flinchlock actually is.
ConTact C.A.R.E is a martial arts based discipline and describes itself as a practical study in the nature of stillness. It was developed in Ngatea, New Zealand, and I trained directly with both founders as part of my core certification. I'm a fully qualified ConTact C.A.R.E practitioner for people and horses. Because it's done in person, I offer this work at my Titirangi studio in West Auckland only. It isn't available as an online session.
Why people bring impact injuries
Concussion, sports injuries and old injuries that never quite resolved are among the most common reasons people come to ConTact C.A.R.E. See the conditions page for more on what people commonly bring to sessions. If a recent concussion or head injury brought you here, please make sure you've also been assessed by a doctor first, since ConTact C.A.R.E is complementary and isn't a substitute for medical care of a head injury.
Why a similar impact can affect two bodies so differently
Some bodies shrug off a hard fall; others carry what seems like a minor one indefinitely, and that's rarely about the size of the impact. It's often about the surprise element, and where the impact lands relative to that body's own vulnerabilities. When it meets one of those, it can throw off the balance that body's whole nature depends on, which is part of why two people, or two horses, can have a similar fall and come away from it completely differently.
What I'm actually tracking in a session
Before I ever put my hands on you, I'm already observing. The place you feel discomfort isn't always where I begin. A flinchlock can cause pain and discomfort far from where it's actually held: a stubbed toe might show up as back pain, an old wrist injury might bring on a headache, a hit to the head might surface as tension somewhere else entirely. Those are just a few of the paths it can take. So rather than chasing the sore spot, I'm looking for the cause of the cause of the cause.
From there, I follow where that pressure actually leads through the body, drawing on precise maps the founders developed, found in Dale Weston Speedy's book, The Nature of ConTact C.A.R.E, for how the body refers, compensates and holds pressure. Alongside that, I work through the bone pressure associated with dermatomes, fascial lines, muscle origin and insertion points, rotational patterns and meridian lines to integrate.
In person across Auckland
My studio is at Lopdell House in Titirangi, on the edge of the Waitakere Ranges, with free parking behind the building and on the surrounding streets. Clients travel from right across Auckland, and occasionally from elsewhere in New Zealand, for this in-person work, from West Auckland suburbs like Green Bay, New Lynn and Henderson through to central and wider Auckland. It's a calm, unhurried space where we have time to follow what your body is showing us.
Prefer to work remotely, or based outside Auckland? My online sessions (PSYCH‑K, EFT, Theta Healing and more) are available worldwide.
Also for horses and small animals
I also offer ConTact C.A.R.E for horses and small animals. See the dedicated pages for horses or dogs, cats & small animals for cost and what to expect.

A ConTact C.A.R.E session is $120 NZD for around 60 minutes, booked as its own dedicated session, in person at Titirangi. Payment is by eftpos at your session.
